Zambales vice-gubernatorial rivals in May elections trade barbs over drug links allegations
Two rivals for the vice gubernatorial post in Zambales province this May elections are trading barbs over the alleged links of one of them to illegal drugs.
Incumbent Vice Governor Angelica M. Cheng, better known as Angel Magsaysay, posted on her Facebook account on Monday a November 2017 news article on the Philippine Daily Inquirer titled, “DILG strips governor, 23 mayors of power over police for alleged drug links.”
The list includes Mayor Jefferson “Jay” Khonghun, who is running against Magsaysay for the province’s vice gubernatorial post in May.
Magsaysay captioned her post with “Katibayan 101,” and said in the comment section, “Pinapaalam ko lang ang tunay kaganapan. Mahalaga malaman ang katutuhanan ito para mahusgahan ng naayon. – issue po ito at malaking sagutin nya ito sa taong bayan!”
Several hours before that post, Khonghun shared on his own Facebook post a photo of a frontpage of a local publication that carries the headline, “Malabo ang isyu ng droga sa mga Khonghun – Bato.”
In the same post where he wrote, “Si PNP Chief Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa na ang Nagsabi At May endorsement pa,” Khonghun also shared a photo of the former national police chief, who is seeking a senatorial post in May, raising his hand.
“Cge Gawa ka pa Ng Kwento,Hirap talaga pag Wala lang Maipakita na Nagawa mo Para Sa Tao At Bayan Kaya pyro Paninira At kasinungalingan nalang ang Sasabihin mo para Manalo,” Khonghun added, without mentioning who he is referring to.
Hours after Magsaysay’s Facebook post with the Inquirer report, Khonghun shared a photo collage that included an October 2009 report of ABS-CBN News titled, “Magsaysay clan member nabbed in Olongapo drug raid.”
“Ayaw Ko manira Pero madaming May kaya na gumawa din Ng Collage katulad Ng pinopost nyo at ginagawa nyo Sa Akin, dami Nag send Sa Akin,” Khonghun wrote.
The ABS-CBN report identified a certain “Enrique ‘Jun’ Magsaysay, nephew of former Zambales governor Vic Magsaysay,” as one of the arrested suspects in that incident. The incumbent vice governor is a daughter of former Zambales Governor Vic Magsaysay.
In earlier Facebook posts, Khonghun said he and his father, reelectionist Zambales 1st District Jeffrey Khonghun, are the official candidates of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the political party headed by presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
He also thanked senatorial candidate Christopher “Bong” Go, the trusted aide of President Rodrigo Duterte, for the endorsement.
