Zambales congresswoman Cheryl Deloso Montalla pays tribute to 13 slain farmers
Here’s a report straight from the source.
Zambales 2nd district representative Cheryl Deloso Montalla took to Facebook to share a bill that recently passed the second reading in Congress. It declared January 22 as National Farmers’ Day and a special working holiday.
“This is in commemoration of the 13 farmers who lost their lives during the Mendiola Massacre in fighting for their rights calling for a genuine Agrarian Reform program. It is also one way of paying tribute to all Filipino farmers whose sacrifices put food on our table and provide sustenance for us all, most specially now amidst the COVID pandemic,” Congresswoman Deloso-Montalla wrote.
As Chairperson of Committee on Revision of Laws, the congresswoman was given the privilege to sponsor the bill during the plenary session. She acknowledged the Makabayan bloc as principal authors.
