Jaime Diaz Cojuangco, the son of Tarlac Rep. Charlie Cojuangco and grandson of the late Danding Cojuangco, has filed his candidacy for the congressional seat of Tarlac’s first district as a last-minute substitute for his father, who survived a crash after he suffered an aneurysm while driving in a circuit race last month.

Cojuangco, whose mother is Cojuangco’s late first wife Rio Diaz who died of cancer in 2004, filed his certificate of candidacy at the provincial office of the Commission on Elections on Tuesday, according to a social media post by the Municipality of Paniqui.

The report said Cojuangco was accompanied by his grandmother, Gretchen Cojuangco, his aunt Lisa Cojuangco Cruz and sister Claudia Diaz Cojuangco.

“Sinuportahan naman si Cong. Jaime Diaz Cojuangco ng mga mayors mula sa unang distrito ng Tarlac,” according to the post.

Tarlac Governor Susan Yap, Vice Governor Carlito David and several Tarlac board members were also present.

Cojuangco’s father Charlie is reportedly out of the hospital and recovering at home.
