Yap rejoices over inclusion of barangay health workers, tanod as SAP beneficiaries
Tarlac Gov. Susan Yap was elated over the decision of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to finally include barangay health workers, tanod and day care workers to the government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
“Good news! The League of Governor’s plea to DSWD to include BHWs, Tanods and Daycare workers in the SAP Social Amelioration Program has been answered!” she said in a Facebook post.
Yap shared a DSWD memorandum signed by Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista addressing the eligibility of barangay health workers, barangay tanod and barangay day care workers for the SAP program.
In the memo, Bautista said the DSWD was adopting the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government to include barangay workers as target beneficiaries of the SAP, subject to proper screening.
The memo noted that barangay workers fall under the category of sub-minimum wage earners, and should thus be qualified to receive the P5,000 to P8,000 emergency cash aid for poor families affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
