Vergara to Duterte: Fight war vs gaming addiction

Nueva Ecija 3rd District Representative Ria Vergara, in a privilege speech Monday (May 15), urged the Duterte administration to fight another war aside from the war on drugs — “the war on gaming addiction.”
The Nueva Ecija politiko said that while the internet has brought many benefits to society, the advent of electronic cash cards has resulted in many young Filipinos getting addicted to internet games.
Vergara cited gaming platforms like Steam and Valve which use online purchases for some in-game advantages.
“This means players can win and lose real money like in a — hence, an internet game evolves into internet gambling,’ Vergara said.
She added that gaming addiction leads to financial trouble, failing grades, social isolation, and poor mental health among others.
