Tarlac given ‘Gawad Kalasag’ seal for disaster management efforts

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has recognized the Tarlac provincial government by giving it the Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence during the 22nd National Awarding Ceremony.

Tarlac Governor Susan Yap, together with PDRRMO chief Marvin Guiang, PDRRMO officer Maureen Bacolod, and Office of the Civil Defense Region III director Cesar Idio, received the seal of excellence during the ceremony.

Tarlac was among the provinces in the country that garnered a fully compliant rating for the Gawad Kalasag Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Office category for 2022.

Fully compliant local government units are those that generally adhere to the standards for the establishment and functionality of the LDRRMOs.

Yap expressed her gratitude and recognition for the dedicated teamwork and determined effort the provincial government through the PDRRMC demonstrated which made the province’s disaster response successful and effective.

The Gawad Kalasag seeks to recognize various stakeholders who promote and implement disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian assistance programs that protect and shield high-risk communities from extreme hazards.

Aside from Tarlac province, the municipalities of Concepcion and Pura and Tarlac City also garnered the same rating and were likewise awarded the seal.
