Subic piers, wharves to undergo rehab
The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SMBA) under its new chairperson, has allotted a budget of P2.46 billion to repair and further develop port facilities in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Newly appointed chair and administrator Wilma Eisma expressed that the rehabilitation of Subic’s piers and wharves will be the priority, as SMBA aims to restore the “heart and soul” of the maritime logistics center.
According to the Philippine Information Agency, Subic has a total of 15 piers and wharves that are used for transshipment of containers and break-bulk cargoes, fuels and lubricants, grains and fertilizer, as well as servicing vessels and passengers.
