South Korean swindler nabbed in Pampanga

Jun 28, 2019 @ 9:40

MANILA — Immigration agents arrested a South Korean in Pampanga who is wanted by authorities in Seoul for swindling worth over 200 million won.

Bobby Raquepo, chief of the Bureau of Immigration’s fugitive search unit (FSU), said Kim Woo, 38, was arrested in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City on Thursday.

The operatives were armed with a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Jaime Morente at the request of the Korean embassy in Manila.

He added that Kim, who had hidden in the country for almost a year, is already an undocumented alien due to the cancellation of his passport by the South Korean government.

The BI official said a South Korean court had issued an arrest warrant against Kim who is also the subject of a red notice from the Interpol.

Kim is wanted for swindling his victim of nearly 129 million won from 2013 to 2015 which he borrowed by falsely claiming he needed the money to finish a film that he was directing.

He was also accused of defrauding the said victim last year of more than 107 million won by enticing the latter to invest in a corporate business.

Investigation revealed that Kim fled to Manila on August 5 last year and has not left the country since then.

“Fraudsters and fugitives are not welcome in our country,” Morente said in a statement.

He added that Kim will be deported and barred from re-entering the Philippines. (PNA)
