SMC’s proposal to build airport in Bulacan set for final review

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the proposal of San Miguel Corp. (SMC) to build an airport in Bulacan has been submitted to the National Economic and Development Authority (Ne) Board for final review.
In his keynote address at the Philippine Aviation Day in Makati City, Tugade said they have awarded the proposal for the P700 billion-peso project to Neda last week after going through the assessment with the Department of Transportation.
The private corporation plans to build the airport on 2,500-hectares of land in Bulakan, Bulacan.
The endorsement to Neda came after the SMC and DOTr have agreed on the terms of the project.
“Once approved by the Neda it will be subject to a Swiss challenge,” Tugade said.
The SMC’s unsolicited proposal has been given an original proponent status. A Swiss challenge will allow third parties to match or exceed the bid of SMC.
