Sen. Gordon leads Independence Day celebration in Bulacan
Senator Richard Gordon is set to lead the commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence on Tuesday, June 12, at the historic Barasoain Church in Bulacan.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando will join Gordon in the flag-raising ceremony at 8:00 a.m.
This will be followed by the oath to the national flag and wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Philippines.
Alvarado said that Bulakenyos should not forget the sacrifices of the Filipino heroes that paved the way to achieve independence.
“Let us not let the sacrifices and invaluable efforts of our ancestors go to waste. Alalahanin po natin tuwina ang mga naging ambag ng ating mga bayani para sa pinaka aasam na kalayaan. At habang ginagawa natin ito, patuloy tayong magkapit-kamay tungo sa pagtahak sa landas ng kaunlaran,” Alvarado added.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.”
Independence Day is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed every June 12 as a commemoration of the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898.
It is in accordance with Proclamation No. 28, s. 1962 or “Declaring June 12 as Philippine Independence Day” signed by former President Diosdado Macapagal.
