Sen Angara lauds Aurora’s booming tourism
Senator Sonny Angara, who is seeking reelection in May, hailed Tuesday the giant leap of Aurora’s tourism industry in over a decade.
According to a statement from Angara’s office, tourist arrivals in his home province jumped from 10,782 in 2007, to 1,291,822 in 2018, citing data from the Aurora Provincial Tourism Office.
Baler, known as the birthplace of surfing in the Philippines as waves reach as high as over nine feet during the season, is the main destination of majority of province’s visitors, it said.
Angara, however, said that Aurora “is more than just Baler,” as he cites other beaches in the province with great potential.
He mentioned Dinadiawan Beach in Dipaculao, and Casapsapan Beach in Casiguran, which are among the pristine beaches, but not yet popular among tourists.
Angara encouraged the promotion of these beaches for sustained tourism growth and jobs generation among local residents.
“We should improve our road networks and fix our airports. Even Baler could attract more tourists if the establishment of its airport would be fast-tracked,” the statement quoted Angara to have said.
Angara was in Aurora to attend the province’s 40th founding anniversary.(END)
