Vice presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte allowed supporters to have a selfie with her at a campaign event in Cabanatuan City, according to a report in Punto Central Luzon.
But the candidate “reminded her supporters to observe physical distancing,” the report said.
The Commission on Elections has discouraged selfies among candidates in campaign sorties to curb Covid-19 transmission.
The Punto report said Duterte attended the opening of two campaign headquarters for her team in Barangays Sumacab and Bantug in Cabanatuan City, where she also met with local politicians.
“Emerging from the inauguration, Duterte went accross the Maharlika highway to greet her supporters who were mostly clad in red and green, had pictures and selfies and briefly chat with them,” according to the report.
“Shortly, she was flashing the placard reminding people to follow physical distancing, one of the rules being laid down by the Commission on Elections in sorties,” it added.
“Kailangan may social.distancimg dahil magagalit po ang Comelec pag hindi natin sinunod ang minimum public health standards,” Duterte was quoted as saying.
