The Sandiganbayan 2nd Division said there is enough evidence to convict Guagua, Pampanga Mayor Dante Torres of Guagua, Pampanga over the his alleged misuse of government funds worth P2.76 million.

Because of this, the anti-graft court turned down his motion seeking leaving to file a demurrer to evidence which challenges the evidence presented during his trial as being weak to prove his guilt.

“After a careful study, the court rules that the evidence presented by the prosecution, testimonial and documentary, as well as the stipulations and admissions made, appear to be prima facie sufficient to sustain the conviction of accused Torres,” ruled the court.

Because of this, Torres will have to present his defense during the trial.

Torres is facing charges for the illegal use of public funds concerning the P2.76-million meant for the upgrade and rehabilitation of the Manuel P. Soriano Park.

Under the charges, he is accused of having diverted the funds and used it for the rehabilitation of Aurelio Tolentino Frontage Area and the purchase of a refrigerator van and heavy equipment.
