San Simon’s health unit bags award for maternal care
The town of San Simon’s only rural health unit (RHU) bested health centers from the 23 cities and municipalities in Pampanga when it comes to maternal care.
The lone RHU was awarded first place by the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Luzon for its efficient implementation of the Maternal Newborn Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN) program.
The health unit, headed by Dr. Marline Bagtas-Dela Rosa, emerged on top for providing excellent health services to pregnant and newborn babies, among the other 48 RHUs in Pampanga.
San Simon Mayor Leonora Wong said the award is a testament to the local government’s commitment to efficiently provide health services to the public, which is one of the priority programs of Governor Lilia Pineda.
According to Wong, the San Simon RHU remains focused on ensuring that its people receive quality healthcare, especially the children.
“Once again, San Simon championed in the implementation of MNCHN, an award that recognizes our efforts in keeping our pregnant mommies and newborn babies healthy. This is a very important recognition for San Simon because it shows how we value the health of every Simonian, especially mothers and children,” the mayor said.
The health department’s MNCHN award, given in partnership with pharmaceutical company United Laboratories (Unilab), aims to recognize local health units which achieved the twin goals of maternal mortality reduction and neonatal mortality reduction, with emphasis on the biological link of the mother and child.
