Roman saddened by discrimination vs transgender at MRT 3
Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman is disappointed that transgenders are still being discriminated in the country.
The politiko shared a news article about a transgender woman being barred by a guard at an MRT-3 station from lining up at the train carriage for women.
“In a civilized society, there is equality amongst the people and respect for the rights of every person of whatever gender, religion, ethnicity, or standing in life. It is very sad that in the Philippines there are still incidents of gender discrimination like what is shown in this video,” said Roman, who is also a transgender.
“We should no longer tolerate any form of gender prejudice, abuse, bullying, harassment or violence,” she said.
Roman added that it is time for Filipinos to be educated about justice and fairness.
“It is time to pass measures, like the SOGIE Equality Bill, that would provide legal protection to the members of the LGBT community. It is time,” she said.
