Roman: No one has exclusive hold on LGBT rights
It seems Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman is learning a lot as a neophyte congresswoman.
In a recent Instagram post, the politiko said she “pleasantly discovered” the desire to help the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community “transends political and ideological differnces”.
“This confirms my firm belief that no one, definitely not myself, nor any political party can claim an exclusive hold on LGBT rights,” said Roman.
She said she has no right to tell a colleague in the House that he or she can no longer support the anti-discrimination bill just because of another political stand.
“I have been told this, but I remain steadfast in my fight for LGBT rights. Why? Simply because I am a member of this community. Nothing more, nothing less,” said Roman.
Spoken like a true queen!
The saying "there is strength in unity" is true. While lobbying for the SOGIE Equality bill in Congress, I have pleasantly discovered that the desire for equality for the LGBT Community transcends political and ideological differences. This confirms my firm belief that no one, DEFINITELY NOT MYSELF, nor any political party can claim an exclusive hold on LGBT rights. I am not about to tell the more than 100 co-authors of the bill that they can no longer support the bill because they voted in favor of a certain issue or because they belong to a certain party or support the President. I have been told this, but I remain steadfast in my fight for LGBT rights. Why? Simply because I am a member of this community. Nothing more, nothing less.
