Rep. Garcia speaks before UN event in New York
Bataan 2nd District Rep. Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III has shared the City of Balanga’s initiatives and experiences as a learning city in a United Nations’ event in New York.
Garcia was invited to speak at a side event during the UN High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in the Church Center for the UN on July 10.
“The panel discussion focused on local governments’ concrete approaches in building learning cities as key to social inclusion and building resilient and sustainable cities,” Garcia said.
Among those present during the panel discussion were representatives of the UN agencies, donors, various inter-governmental bodies and civil societies worldwide.
The session entitled “Learning Cities: Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies through education” was organized by The Asia Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE), United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Institute of Lifelong Learning (UIL), Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO), and The United Methodist Church.
Balanga was a recipient of the UNESCO Learning City Award in 2015.
