All barangays of Licab town in Nueva Ecija have been “cleared” of illegal drugs after the last four villages complied with the parameters set forth by the Regional Oversight Committee on Dangerous Drugs, according to police.
Based on a Philippine Information Agency report, the criteria for a barangay to be declared “drug-free” include a functional Barangay Anti-Illegal Drug Abuse Council, non-availability of drug supply, existence of drug awareness campaign, and voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk.
“The last four barangay to be declared drug cleared are San Casimiro, San Juan, Sta. Maria and Tabing Ilog,” Licab Municipal Police Station acting chief of police PCpt. Lauro Puno was quoted as saying.
“Needless to say, I am in awe that while I am still the Acting Chief of Police of Licab, all barangays of the town under my watch have been declared drug-cleared,” he said.
“I am proud of this achievement because of our efforts in the barangay drug clearing program with the utmost support of our Mayor and all our punong barangays and their councils,” Puno said in the report.
