Pineda appeals to NLEX: Restore cash payments
Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda on Friday urged toll regulators and the operator of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to allow cash transactions at the toll plazas as long queueing was causing massive gridlocks in the province.
He issued the call amid calls from other local executives demanding a better and more efficient toll collection system after the Department of Transportation imposed a ban on cash transactions on toll expressways.
NLEX, operated by NLEX Corp., passes through Pampanga province.
Pineda reportedly appealed to NLEX and regulators to “restore cash payments at toll plazas until NLEX can fine tune its RFID system,” according to ABS-CBN News.
The report said the governor cited the “heavy traffic” the RFID system was causing in his province.
