PH, US hold marine exercises in Zambales facing West Philippine Sea
Filipino and American soldiers conducted Wednesday joint amphibious landing exercises in Zambales, a province facing the West Philippine Sea.
The exercises were part of the annual Balikatan training between the Philippines and the United States.
Philippine exercise director Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Salamat was quick to clarify that the activities at the Naval Education and Training Command in San Antonio had nothing to do with Manila’s territorial dispute with China.
“We focus on the training objectives and attaining the task that they are required to complete for the training module of the Balikatan exercise,” he said.
Zambales is exercising jurisdiction over Scarborough Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc, which is also being claimed by China even if it is within the 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.
