Pampanga looking for sustainable water sources
The provincial government of Pampanga is working towards utilizing other sources of sustainable water for various water utilities.
According to Pampanga Board Member Salvador Dimson, surface water is among the possible sources as it poses less impact on the environment.
Scientists from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, warned the local government of a looming water crisis that may hit Pampanga and surrounding provinces by 2025.
Factors that contributed to this crisis include the indiscriminate domestic, agricultural and industrial use of groundwater resources and the booming population in Central Luzon.
Dimson said water utilities may help prevent the crisis by developing programs on water preservation, recycling and using sustainable water systems.
