As part of the 451st celebration of the Aldo ning Kapampangan, the Pampanga provincial government organized the first-ever Ligligang Pamandukit.
Held at the Benigno Hall at the capitol compound, the competition was a province-wide on-the-spot sculpture making contest led by Board Member Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.
Other organizers included MOKA awardee and Eclessiastical Art icon WIlly Layug, and the Arts, Culture, and Tourism Office of Pampanga (ACTOP) Officer Randy Del Rosario.
Ten local artists from Betis, Guagua, Apalit and Bacolor participated the event which aims to keep the “dukit” tradition alive.
Cayabyab and Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon led the ceremonial kick-off of the competition, simultaneously hitting the hardwood and producing artistic staccato beats as the artisans carve their entries.
Winners of the festival received cash prizes, officials said.
