Nueva Ecija trader fakes robbery of P670K in cash belonging to girlfriend
A 44-year-old businessman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly conspiring with an unidentified robber to make it appear he was robbed of P670,000 in cash owned by his girlfriend, a news report said.
San Isidro police apprehended the suspect, a resident of Barangay Lapit, after investigation showed that he only “connived” with another man to stage the robbery while he was buying plants, according to a report in the Inquirer.
The suspect initially claimed he was mugged by a knife-wielding man who took his sling bag in Barangay Sapang at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, the report showed.
“This station conducted a thorough investigation and revealed that the suspect only connived with the alleged hold-upper to get his sling bag,” the chief of police, Major Baltazar Corpuz, said in the report.
But after the investigation, the businessman admitted that the bag contained only a face mask and that he just staged the scenario to make it appear that the cash was stolen.
The money belongs to his girlfriend, according to the report.
The suspect was charged with violation of Article 183 of the Revised Penal Code or false testimony, the report said.
