Nueva Ecija cop, drug pusher dead in buy-bust shootout
A police was shot dead by a suspected drug peddler, who was also killed during an anti-drug operation in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija, an official said.
Central Luzon Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Amador Corpus said Police Officer 1 (PO1) Mariano Emmanuel Caparas of the General Tinio Municiapal Police Station was one of the operatives who conudcted a buy-bust operation at Sitio Saudi, Barangay Pias on the night of July 16.
But shootout ensued, resulting to the death of Caparas, who sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, and of the suspect identified only as alias Abet.
Caparas was rushed to Medicare Community Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Recovered from the crime scene were a Glock 9mm pistol, 10 caliber 9mm spent shells, a deformed fired bullet, a motorcycle and a heat-sealed transparent plastic containing suspected shabu.
Corpus expressed deepest condolences to the family of the slain policeman.
“This is unfortunate news for us as one of our members was killed in line with our diligent efforts to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs and while nothing can make up for his loss, along with our deepest condolences, we assure his bereaved family that they will get the necessary benefits that are due for them,” he said.
