Nolcom: Village, SK polls ‘generally peaceful’
The Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday that the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Monday were considered to be “generally peaceful.”
Nolcom forces, as deputized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and in coordination with the other concerned agencies, were deployed in strategic locations within their areas of operation to ensure the security of polling places and safety of voters.
Checkpoints and visibility within the prescribed distance from the polling precincts, together with the Philippine National Police (PNP), were also conducted at pre-designated areas to have control of the situation and prevent any hostile intentions from being executed, it said.
Nolcom said its personnel from the Joint Task Forces (JTF) “Kaugnay” of the 7th Infantry Division (7ID), JTF “Tala” from the 5th Infantry Division (5ID) and JTF “Karagatan” of the Naval Forces-Northern Luzon (NFNL) were also augmented to compose the Joint Security Coordinating Centers (JSCCs) to monitor all election-related activities and updates at the regional, provincial and municipal levels.
Nolcom, with headquarters in Camp Aquino, Tarlac, has jurisdiction over North and Central Luzon.
