N. Ecija Cong Suansing proudly claims authorship of Universal Health Care Bill

Oct 11, 2018 @ 8:21

Nueva Ecija 1st District Estrellita Suansing proudly claimed she is among the main proponents of the Universal Health Care Bill that the Senate passed on Wednesday on third and final reading.

“Isa po tayo sa Principal Authors sa panukalang ito,” Suansing said on her Facebook page.

The Upper Chamber of Congress approved the bill with 14 affirmative votes as President Rodrigo Duterte certified it as urgent and for immediate enactment.

According to a statement from the Senate, the bill will guarantee equal access to quality and affordable health services for all Filipinos, as it called for reforms in the mandate, responsibilities and jurisdiction of agencies implementing the country’s universal health care program, such as the Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and local government units.

Senator JV Ejercito, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, said the passage of the bill into law will, among others, expand the PhilHealth coverage to include free consultation fees, laboratory tests and other diagnostic services.

The House of Representatives has passed its version of the bill and immediately transmitted it to the Senate last year.

To resolve certain disagreeing provisions of the bills that the Senate and the House of Representatives passed, a bicameral conference committee was created that will include Suansing and fellow Central Luzon solon, Cheryl Deloso-Montalla of Zambales, among others.(END)
