Mayor Torres eyes lumber exemptions for woodcarvers

Guagua Mayor Dante Torres is seeking exemptions for local woodcarvers in the accessing lumber for furniture-making and woodcraft.
This after the national government is set on formulating stricter guidelines against illegal logging in the country.
The Pampanga politiko said he will ask the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to allow woodcarvers to bid on confiscated wood that is put on sale or auction.
Torres will also create a council to look into the situation of the woodcraft industry in Guagua to better formulate a master plan for its marketing and development.
The production of furniture and woodcraft is a considerable source of livelihood for people living in the Betis district of Guagua.
