Some 625 residents of Mabalacat City working in the tourism sector have received their Covid-19 jabs as the city prepares to reopen tourist destinations.

In a Philippine Information Agency report, Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said the vaccination drive for the sector “is aimed to protect their well-being, while ensuring sustained business operations and the safety of the general public.”

“We are aware of the national government’s call to balance the economy and public health. Since we are under Modified General Community Quarantine and many establishments such as hotels are open, we decided to vaccinate those in the hospitality sector,” he said.

The mayor said these iclude workers from the different hospitality and travel establishments, including some of the workforce of the Clark International Airport.

The city government has also ramped up its Covid-19 response with the establishment of its city-run isolation facility, its own swabbing hub, and a storage facility equipped with biomedical freezers that can store Covid-19 vials in required temperatures, the report said.

“We hope to have a steady supply of vaccines from the national government so that we will achieve herd immunity before the year ends,” according to Garbo.
