Mabalacat kicks off search for best home veggie garden
The city government of Mabalacat recently kicked off the “Search for the Best Home Vegetable Garden,”a city-wide competition aimed at urging people to plant their own food in their own gardens.
“The activity aims to urge non-farmers, our people in urban areas, to build their home gardens. This is also to continue our goal towards sustainable farming and urban gardening,” City Information Officer Jose Aubrey Pelayo IV said.
Winners of the competition received garden tools, vegetable seeds, and other equipment.
Pelayo said solo parents, pregnant women, and malnourished and undernourished children also benefited from programs and projects supporting food sustainability.
The Mabalacat city government also intensified its aid to farmers, and indigenous communities as support to the agriculture sector.
Pelayo said the local government has provided farm inputs to back food security and sustainability.
“The local government of Mabalacat City is one with the initiatives of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the distribution of certified seeds, and assorted vegetable seeds,” he said.
“We also allocated fertilizers, both organic and inorganic, and farm equipment, including sets of farming and gardening tools,” he said in a Philippine Information Agency report
