Lubao, NHCP commemorate WW2 hero’s birth anniversary

The Lubao town government, along with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), commemorated the 108th birth anniversary of Jose B. Lingad, a World War II hero.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the monument of the late veteran politician at the Museo ni Jose B. Lingad in Barangay Sta. Nicolas 1st in Lubao to mark the celebration.

According to NHCP Officer-in-Charge Carminda Arevalo, the commemoration rites is held annually to honor the Lingad’s life and leadership.

Lingad was a World War II veteran and served as governor and congressman of Pampanga before he was assassinated by an alleged member of the then Philippine Constabulary on December 16, 1980, according to a Sun Star Pampanga report.

“Patuloy na inaaalala ng NHCP ang buhay at naging ambag ni Jose B. Lingad sa Pampanga at buong bansa para maipakilala at maging inspirasyon siya ng mga bagong henerasyon ng kabataan,” Arevalo said.

Jason De Guzman, grandson of Lingad, thanked the local government and NHCP for remembering their patriarch, the report said.

“Masaya kami sa pamilya na patuloy na inaalala hindi lang ang lolo namin, kundi pati ang ibang local heroes natin,” he was quoted as saying.
