Litterbugs in Clark freeport face stiff fines

Persons caughts littering or improperly handling waste in the Clark Freeport Zone will face stiff fines, according to the Clark Development Corp. (CDC).

In a July 21 memo, the CDC urged all residents and workers at Clark locators to comply with regulations to maintain cleanliness and order in the freeport.

The CDC will impose a fine of P1,000 any violator caught littering within its jurisdiction. On the other hand, those caught improperly handling trash will be fined P5,000, while those who don’t manage hazardous waste properly will be fined P50,000.

Disposing single-use plastics will also result in penalties from P5,000 on the first offense and P10,000 on the second offense to P20,000 on the third offense and the revocation of business permit for subsequent offenses.

CDC President and CEO Manuel Gaerlan said all Clark stakeholders should be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the freeport.
