LGUs in Pampanga provide ‘libreng sakay’ services

In order to assist commuters affected by the two-day jeepney transport strike, local government units of Pampanga fielded government vehicles for “libreng sakay” services.
The City Government of San Fernando provided rescue trucks and a bus to transport workers from the city proper to Barangay Telasbastagan.
Pickup and drop-off points for the free transportation service were the City Hall and Barangay Telabastagan, from 6:00 a.m. onwards.
The municipality of Sto. Tomas, meanwhile, mobilized the seven barangay service vehicles and the municipal bus for commuters travelling from Sto. Tomas to the City of San Fernando.
Pick-up and drop-off points were set on the seven barangays going to Baluyut Bridge in the City of San Fernando and vice-versa.
Libreng sakay services were also provided by the towns of Minalin and San Luis using barangay service vehicles.
On Monday, October 16, Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) launched a two-day strike to rally against the proposed jeepney modernization program of the national government.
Malacañang all classes in public and private schools and government work nationwide on Monday and Tuesday.
