June 15 a holiday in Pampanga to commemorate Pinatubo eruption
June 15 has been declared a special non-working holiday in Pampanga to commemorate the 30th year since the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991.
Under Proclamation No. 1159 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea under the authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, the date was declared a special non-working holiday.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the province of Pampanga be given full opportunity to commemorate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to community quarantine, social distancing, and other public health measures,” the proclamation read in part.
The eruption of Mt. Pinatubo on June 15, 1991 devastated the provinces of Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac and Nueva Ecija.
The provincial government had requested the special commemoration as tribute to those who perished during the disaster, officials said.
