Gov Pineda prepares Pampanga for the ‘Big One’
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, in her capacity as Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) chief, led the drafting of an earthquake contingency plan on Monday (May 8).
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) earlier said Pampanga and other nearby provinces will also be affected by the “Big One” or the projected magnitude 7.2 earthquake generated by the West Valley Fault (WVF).
There’s a possibility that the coastal parts of Pampanga will be flooded in case a strong earthquake cracks the Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
Vice Governor Dennis Pineda said the PDRMMC must “ensure that we are prepared and organized to efficiently and effectively respond when it strikes.”
The provincial government also said it has updated its disaster risk reduction and management plan by incorporating more climate change mitigation efforts.#
