Gov Pineda to BJMP: Build bigger jails
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda is looking to build bigger jails in the province to solve the problem of jail congestion in relation to the intensified campaign against illegal drugs.
The Pampanga politiko has asked the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to look for bigger lots for the construction of new district jails.
The Pampanga Provincial Jail (PPJ) currently houses 2,146 inmates wherein 80% have drug-related cases.
The PPJ only has an ideal capacity of 800 inmates.
“Nandiyan na ang budget ninyo, kailangan na lang ang lote para hindi na masikip ang mga district jails,” Pineda said.
Pineda said inmates deserve human treatment.
“Tao rin yan. Kahit pusher ‘yan, kahit may ginawang krimen, tao pa rin siya,” she said.#
