Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado on Tuesday, February 28 ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to place fire fighting units on 24/7 alert this March, or Fire Prevention Month.
At the same time, the politiko said that the provincial government of Bulacan has lined up several activities this month that are aimed at helping save people’s lives and properties.
With the theme “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan”, Alvarado said that the Fire Prevention Month activities are being conducted by the PDRRMO to teach preparedness and proper response in times of emergencies.
“We are intensifying our efforts to enhance awareness and preparedness of every Bulakenyo, so that they are ready and know what to do in case of emergency,” the Bulacan governor said in a Philippine News Agency report.
Alvarado also instructed PDRRM officer Liz Muncal to inspect grassy areas and implement measures to prevent grass fires which usually occur during the summer season.
The Bulacan governor disclosed that a massive information drive is now being conducted all over the province wherein leaflets on fire prevention tips are being disseminated as well as climate change handbooks.
A fire safety inspection at the provincial capitol building, including different offices and hospitals, will also be conducted, the governor added.
