Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took an active role in ensuring that the beneficiaries of the “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers” (Tupad) program in Santa Rita town received their salaries.
The Pampanga congresswoman and House Deputy Speaker met with the beneficiaries in simple ceremonies held in Santa Rita town and hosted by municipal officials led by Mayor Arthur Salalila to personally oversee the payout of the salaries of the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries received P4,500 each for 10 days of community work.
The Tupad program is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and unemployed indigents. Under the program, each beneficiary is hired to work for a minimum of 10 days with a daily pay based on the prevailing minimum wage.
This program is part of the employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with the office of Arroyo and the Municipal Government of Santa Rita.
The program provides temporary employment to displaced, underemployed and seasonal workers. Each beneficiary is provided with protective clothing and headgear and enrolled for insurance coverage with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) covering the entire duration of their work program.
The work of such beneficiaries under the Tupad program will revolve around social, economic, and agroforestry community projects.
