Garcia targets Bataan herd immunity by end of 2021
Bataan Governor Albert Garcia said the provincial government was targeting herd immunity by the end of 2021 with the goal of vaccinating an average of 5,000 to 10,000 in one day.
“Ang target natin, sabay-sabay mag-operate. Kung makapagbakuna tayo ng 5,000 to 10,000 sa isang araw ay tapos tayo sa target natin na herd immunity before the end of the year kung mayroong sapat na supply ng bakuna,” he said in a Philippine News Agency report.
So far, some 14,000 Bataan residents have been inoculated against Covid-19, mostly medical and non-medical front-liners and senior citizens, according to Garcia.
“Senior citizens na ang binabakunahan at hopefully sa buwang ito ay mga may morbidity at economic front-liners na ang kasunod kapag may supply na ng bakuna,” he said in the report.
Garcia said vaccination for the second dose had also begun.
“Ang second dose ay depende sa bakuna. Ang iba ay nakapag second dose na especially ang mga nauna na binakunahan ng Sinovac gaya ng mga medical workers sa Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center,” he said.
“Ang iba na AstraZeneca ibinakuna ay maghihintay pa,” Garcia said.
