Garcia: Bataan targets herd immunity by October
Bataan Governor Albert Garcia vowed on Tuesday to have his province achieve herd immunity in the next three months.
“Ito ang ating layunin dahil ito ang pinakamabisang paraan upang ating mapagtagumpayan ang pandemya at mapigilan ang patuloy na mutation ng coronavirus habang nagkakahawahan sa mga pamayanan,” he said.
To reach herd immunity, the Bataan provincial government would have to inoculate at least 70 percent of its population.
Some 19 vaccination sites have been put up in 11 municipalities and one city across the province, according to Garcia.
But more vaccination sites will be opened when more vaccines arrive, the governor said.
Bataan has received some 85,080 doses of Sinovac, 6,420 multi-dose vials of AstraZeneca, 8,250 single-dose ampules of Sputnik V, 3,900 multi-dose vials of Pfizer and 530 multi-dose vials of Moderna.
Garcia urged Bataan residents to continue to comply with health and safety protocols to prevent a new surge of Covid-19.
