Farmers, NFA in Bataan foster strong ties

Farmers and farmer groups in the city of Balanga in Bataan province are encouraged to foster partnership with the National Food Authority (NFA).
Last month, the provincial government invited different stakeholders of the NFA for a joint “Ugnayan” program at the agency’s provincial office in order to have a dialogue with the farmers. The talks include explaining the roles played by each stakeholder in developing the local grains industry.
During her welcome message, Bataan Provincial Manager Adelaida C. Nuestro expressed her gratitude towards the stakeholders for their continued support to NFA programs, especially to the farmers and farmer groups who loyally sell their produce to NFA despite the gap between buying price offered by commercial rice traders and that of the agency.
Ugnayan, a program which the provincial government has not done for so long, aims to encourage farmers and farmer groups to sell their produce to the NFA.
The recent Ugnayan proved to be fruitful, for farmers promised to keep selling part of their harvest to NFA. The farmers acknowledge that local government units and charity organizations source their rice from NFA when disasters and calamities strike.
