Duterte: Clark airport’s privatization needs Congress support
President Rodrigo Duterte said Tuesday, July 10, that any plan to privatize Clark International Airport should have the support of Congress.
Duterte told reporters in Pampanga that there was nothing final yet on the plan to privatize the airport.
“Nothing is final yet. It has to be the decision of Congress and the Cabinet. It’s always a joint effort,” he said.
“No one in this government can say what will happen or what. You have to contend with the government itself because Congress is likewise there to protect the interest of the people and the money. Remember that it costs us money to build it,” Duterte explained.
There is a plan to privatize the operation and maintenance of the state-run airport, raising concerns among the employees of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), which manages the airport, as they could be displaced.
About 12 international and domestic airlines have been using the Clark International Airport.
