DOT seeks promotion of Central Luzon tourist spots in lieu of Boracay
The Department of Tourism (DOT) Central Luzon has urged travel agencies and tour operators to promote and sell tour packages in the region amid the six-month closure of Boracay in Aklan for six months.
DOT Region 3 Officer-in-charge Carolina D. Uy advised them to discontinue selling tour packages to Boracay effective the island’s closure on April 26.
“Take this time to re-orient yourselves on the beauty of our very own tourism products and destinations that will definitely interest your travelers,” she said.
In lieu of Boracay, she said the travel agents and tour operators could suggest destinations, such as Aurora, Zambales and Bataan for alternative beach or island destinations.
“Accommodation establishments are encouraged to upgrade facilities to cater to the high-end segment of the Boracay tourist market,” Uy added.
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the closure of Boracay, which he likened to a “cesspool,” so that it can be rehabilitated. #
