Mayor Leonora C. Wong of San Simon, Pampanga said that the public could now have free wifi access within the three areas in the town.

This was after the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) installed free wifi in San Simon plaza and public market, and San Jose Sports Complex.

“To connect just simply open your wifi and connect to: Free Public Wifi-Pipol Konek,” she said.

The free public wifi project spearheaded by the DICT aims to accelerate the government’s efforts in enhancing Internet accessibility for Filipinos.

It is in line with the “Internet For All” thrust identified in the Philippine Digital Strategy 2011-2016.

The government has earmarked P1.4 billion for the project as authorized in the 2015 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

The program aims to provide free wifi access in plazas and other public places in the municipalities classified as 3, 4, 5 and 6.
