‘Di pa kami handa! Gov Pineda wants Pampanga under modified ECQ for at least 1 week
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Governor Dennis Pineda on Wednesday said he will appeal to the Department of Health (DOH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to put the province under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) rather than general community quarantine (GCQ) for at least a week starting May 16.
Pineda said the decision to make an appeal came up following his meeting today with the 22 mayors in the province, majority of whom favored a modified ECQ.
“Majority decision is dun tayo sa modified ECQ. Hindi muna tayo pupunta agad sa GCQ. We are going to appeal to the national government. The reason, first, we need to prepare our constituents. Hindi pwede na maglalabasan na lang po agad,” the governor said in an interview.
He said the modified ECQ will also give the local officials enough time to prepare workers in the manufacturing, construction and other economic sectors mentioned in IATF Resolution No. 35.
“The modified ECQ will also give time to local health authorities to assess results of mass testing and for the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to establish allowed transport routes,” he said.
He added that provincial officials are open to making another appeal to reconsider another status other than GCQ.
At present, the province has 79 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, with 51 recoveries and 10 deaths. (PNA)
