DENR Central Luzon prepares activities for ocean month celebration
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Central Luzon has urged the public to help conserve coastal and marine resources as it lined up several activities for the celebration of the “Month of Ocean (MOO).”
Minerva Martinez, chief of the Conservation and Development Division of DENR Central Luzon, noted that 2018 marks the 19th year the country is celebrating the MOO by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 57 issued in 1999.
She said this year’s celebration, which is anchored on the theme “Together for our reefs,” promotes coral reef conservation and restoration.
“Our region is endowed with rich marine biodiversity and natural resources. Let us all do our share in protecting and conserving our environmental wealth,” Martinez added.
Among the activities for the MOO celebration in the region include a forum about coral reef protection, mangrove planting at the Bamboo Hub and Eco-Park in Lubao, Pampanga and a coastal and underwater clean-up in Masinloc-Oyon Bay Marine Reserve in Zambales.
