Comelec partners w/ mall for barangay, SK polls in Region 3

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has partnered with SM Supermalls in Central Luzon to provide more registration venues for the upcoming 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Registration centers have been set up at various SM mall locations such as SM City Clark, SM City San Fernando Downtown, SM City Telabastagan, SM City Olongapo Central, SM City Tarlac, and SM City Cabanatuan.

The partnership aims to make voter registration more convenient and accessible to residents of barangays in the region, according to the Comelec.

To be eligible for registration, individuals must be Filipino citizens who are at least 18 years old by the time of the elections, have been a resident of the Philippines for at least one year, and have been living in the area they intend to register in for at least six months.

The list of requirements for registration, transfer, and reactivation include a CEF-1 application form, a coronavirus self-declaration form, and a valid ID such as a national ID, employer’s ID card, postal ID, PWD discount ID, student ID, senior citizen ID, driver’s license, NBI clearance, passport, SSS/GSIS ID, Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) ID, PRC ID, or any other valid ID. For changes or corrections to entries, additional documents such as a birth certificate, marriage contract/court order, and/or CENOMAR may be required.

The Comelec Central Luzon office had previously reported that voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections is still low, with only three weeks remaining before the registration deadline on January 31.

The partnership with SM Supermalls is expected to help increase voter turnout and participation in the upcoming elections.
