Clinic for the crazy? Gov Pineda envisions special health facility
Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda is mulling the construction of a health care facility designed to care for mentally-challenged individuals.
The lady politiko, in a Philippine News Agency report on February 10, made this statement during the assembly of more than 400 mentally-challenged patients at the Lubao Gymnasium Friday.
“I am now looking for a vacant lot where we can build a health care facility to be funded by the Department of Health (DOH) for our family members who are mentally-challenged,” Pineda said.
Provincial health officer Dr. Antonio “Jay” Rivera said Pineda has already met with an association composed of neuro-psychiatrists who are willing to provide free and adequate consultations and services to the poorest of the poor.
Rivera also said that the planned health care facility will house specialists qualified to give therapeutic support and psychiatric services.
The Pampanga governor said the provincial government, in coordination with the DOH, will continue to provide programs and services to the patients.
“The Department of Health agreed to give free medicines to our patients (mentally challenged). I know that the assistance from the provincial government is not enough that is why I am still looking for solutions on how to provide adequate support to them,” Pineda added.
