Cayetano names Kapampangan journalist-turned diplomat as DFA Asec for public diplomacy
Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano has designated Kapampangan Elmer G. Kato, a journalist-turned diplomat, as Acting Assistant Secretary for public diplomacy of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Prior to his new appointment, Cato was the Chargè d’Affaires of the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad.
Before passing the Foreign Service Examinations, Cato was a veteran journalist.
He worked for different local and international media organizations.
He also published The Angeles Sun and the Kapampangan Magazine in Pampanga.
Last November he made headlines after he asked the police to arrest a moviegoer who refused to stand up when the Philippine National Anthem was played inside a theater in Pampanga.
