Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado took part in a cleanup activity on Sunday in Obando town as part of the national government’s efforts to rehabilitate Manila Bay.
The massive cleanup under the “Battle for Manila Bay” rehabilitation project was held as well in the municipalities of Marilao and Santa Maria, and in the cities of Meycauayan and San Jose del Monte, the provincial government said.
Some 2,000 Bulakenyos participated in the event.
“Ang tubig ay biyaya. Hindi dapat ito maging sanhi ng problema. Oras na upang bawat isa sa atin ay kumilos upang masolusyunan ang problema na tayo rin naman ang nagdulot sa ating Inang Bayan,” Alvarado said.
Other officials who joined the cleanup were Chief Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel, Sr. Supt. Chito Bersaluna, Lt. Col. Arnel Cabugon, DENR Assistant Secretary Joselin Marcus Fragada, EMB Regional Director Lormelyn Claudio, and DOT Regional Director Carolina Uy.
Simultaneous cleanup events were also done in Rajah Sulayman, Manila; Guagua, Pampanga; Mariveles, Bataan; and, Bacoor, Cavite.
The provincial government said a number of companies operating in Bulacan have been issued “cease and desist” orders for violating environmental laws.
