Bulacan Cong Sy-Alvardo thanks Duterte for passing bill for PWDs’ PhilHealth coverage
Bulacan 1st District Representative Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for passing a bill he co-authored ensuring mandatory PhilHealth coverage for Persons With Disability.
Republic Act 11228, titled, “An Act Providing for the Mandatory Philhealth Coverage for all Persons with Disability (PWDs),” was signed into law on Feb. 22, and was published on March 4.
The law states that all PWDs shall automatically be covered under the National Health Insurance Program of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
It said that premium contributions for all PWDs shall be paid by the national government.
But the premium contributions of PWD members in the formal economy shall be shared equally by their employers and the national government.
The necessary funding for this particular program will be sourced from proceeds from the excise tax on alcohol and tobacco products.
Sy-Alvarado said the legislation is among those strongly fought for by her mother who is a member of the PWD group.
